Prepreg - Uni-Directional Tapes & Woven Fabrics

Aldila's prepreg production facility is located in Poway, California, which is approximately 25 miles northeast of San Diego, California. This 73,000 square foot facility consists of six (6) 24" wide hot melt prepreg production lines, and one (1) 50" wide hot melt prepreg production line, that were installed in early 2008. All of these production lines are capable of manufacturing both carbon fiber uni-directional prepreg tapes, and woven carbon fiber prepreg fabrics. In addition to carbon composites, Aldila manufactures a variety of other prepreg materials including glass, Kevlar, and spectra prepreg tapes and fabrics. Aldila has also worked with ceramic and nickel-coated materials, and a wide variety of glass-scrimmed product forms as well. All of Aldila's prepreg production is supported by two (2) high speed, and state-of-the-art Kroenert Coater / Filmers. This equipment, coupled with other internal prepreg technology, enables Aldila to maintain tighter resin content(s) and areal weight control across the prepreg band-width -- which is critical in controlling ply-thickness variation in finished parts. Today, the industry standards for resin control and real weights for uni-directional prepreg tapes, is target +/- 3%. Aldila has demonstrated the ability to maintain resin control and areal weight for uni-directional tapes, at target +/- 2%. Aldila's ability to provide this product form to a tighter tolerance is significant. Our customers are able to purchase a high quality, uni-directional prepreg material, that will produce a better and stronger laminate, a better composite, and better composite part.
